EUFORES Academy MEP Briefing on Renewable Hydrogen

The EUFORES Academy MEP Briefing on Renewable Hydrogen was held online on Friday 17 July 2020 to discuss the future of renewable hydrogen as a decarbonization tool. Pierre Tardieu, Chief Policy Officer of WindEurope presented an overview  of the renewable energy market sharing practical examples of excellent ongoing projects on clean hydrogen production across Europe.

MEPs underlined the need of having a clear definition and distinction of clean hydrogen from other forms of hydrogen, introducing a sectorial approach using hydrogen as a decarbonization solution only when indispensable, and its alignment with the climate neutrality objectives.

 

Background information

On 8th of July, the European Commission adopted the EU strategies for energy system integration and hydrogen, which in line with the European Green Deal, will contribute to having a more interconnected energy system and the achievement of a climate-neutral Europe by 2050.
