“Climate Emergency & Energy Crisis – Faster Switch to Renewables and Energy Efficiency”

The Green Group of the Swedish Parliament in cooperation with EUFORES had the honour to organise the annual cross-party Inter-parliamentary Meeting on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency on 27 & 28 October 2023 in the Parliament of Sweden, Stockholm.

Members of Parliament from EU27 Member States and all political groups joined the event.

Top speakers and representatives from the EU27 national parliaments, the European Parliament, the International Energy Agency, the European Commission, industry, science and NGO representatives gathered to discuss the prospects of renewable energy and energy efficiency for economic growth, social integration and prosperity for the European Union – all in the light of the climate emergency, the energy crisis and the war in Ukraine.

IPM23 was hosted and organized by the Green Group of the Swedish Parliament in close cooperation with EUFORES. Märta Stenevi, MP Sweden, Per Bolund, MP Sweden, (co-leaders for the Swedish Green Party) and Linus Lakso, MP Sweden & Spokesperson on Energy of the Swedish Green Party, had the honour to welcome Members of Parliament from all over Europe in the Swedish Parliament premises.

The conference discussed core topics on European and national level related to the energy transition:

– European Green Deal
– REPowerEU
– Renewable Energy Directive
– Energy Efficiency Directive
– Energy Performance of Buildings Directive
– Consequences of the Ukraine war for the energy transition
– National implementation of EU policies
– Exchange of experience between EU and national levels and between national parliaments
– Experience of Sweden in promoting the energy transition despite the recent situation

Background

EUFORES aims at gathering the 100 most active parliamentarians in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The event will be the perfect opportunity to exchange knowledge and to engage in discussions with like-minded colleagues from other Member States and the European Parliament, officials of national governments, the European Commission and selected representatives from industry and the scientific sector. The one-and-a-half-day conference will be accompanied by a Gala Dinner on Friday and a side visit programme on Saturday.
