EUFORES has the honour to welcome Christophe Hansen, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, for an exchange of his plans on renewables in the field of agriculture with a special focus on Agri-PV.
8 July 2026, European Parliament, Strasbourg
“Agri-Photovoltaics – a possible contribution to reduce the heat stress and the fossil fuel dependency of EU agriculture”
In presence and with input of EU Commissioner for Agriculture & Food, Christophe Hansen.
EU agriculture is suffering extremely – not only under the actual heat waves, but also because of recurrent energy crises, which inflate the production costs of the European agriculture production. Photovoltaics – if carefully designed – can help farmers to find concrete solutions to the “heat” stress and to the fossil fuel dependency, while contributing to biodiversity.
In our breakfast meeting with EU Commissioner for Agriculture Christophe Hansen, we will present several concrete Agri-PV projects, which bring co-benefits like reduced water usage and enhanced shading and additional stable income through energy production for the agricultural sector; and we will discuss with the CEO of SolarPower Europe, Walburga Hemetsberger on future prospects of reducing the EU dependency on fossil fuels by accelerated switching to solar PV in combination with new innovations like heat pumps and battery-electric robots.
