Smart-e Buildings

EU-wide campaign for development of Europe´s building stock

The project of "Smart-e Buildings" was a project of the Intelligent Energy Europe programme that was carrying out a European-wide industry-led mobilisation campaign called TAKE YOUR ENERGY BACK.

This campaign aimed at raising awareness of citizens, public bodies, parliamentarians and the media about the massive, but untapped potential in buildings to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Exploitation of this potential is crucial for meeting the 2020 EU energy targets:

  • 20% less CO2 emissions
  • 20% of renewables
  • 20% energy efficiency

For the first time ever, the European buildings, energy efficiency and renewables´industries joined forces and united their voices into a concerted action aimed at giving citizens, public authorities and the media access to information on energy efficiency and renewable energy in buildings. It was meant to enable them to take action and ideally trigger investments in this sector. The long-term goal of the campaign was to make a tangible contribution to developlent of Europe´s building stock towards nearly zero energy standards for both private and public buildings.

EUFORES supported this project as a subcontractor and worked to develop a network of decision-makers which support higher ambition in measures for smart-e buildings.

Members of European Parliament and national parliaments were therefore invited to support the campaign with a join declaration and with a high-level event in the European Parliament in 2011.

The high-level event took place on 7 December 2011 in the European Parliament in Brussels.

The project ended in January 2012. For more information on the project please visit www.takeyourenergyback.eu
